Who is Rose Riot?
I discovered my passion for photography when I received my first camera at the age of 10. That passion quickly blossomed into a career as a professional photographer, capturing the energy of live rock concerts for various publications. Shooting live music was a dream come true, but my curiosity and drive for new experiences led me to expand my focus. I embarked on a journey to photograph everything I love—people, places, and things. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with notable clients such as The Fox Theater, Stone Mountain Park, Coca-Cola, Hosea Helps, Wussy Magazine, and countless families, children, and performers.
In 2012, I merged my love for photography with my lifelong dedication to teaching children by founding Camera Class: Photography for Kids. Through this program, I’ve had the joy of sharing the art and science of photography with thousands of children. Inspired by these experiences, I wrote Max and the Attitude Adjustment, a photography book for kids.
My journey took another exciting turn when Drew Charter School, where I had been volunteering, invited me to become their elementary photography teacher. This made me one of the few public elementary school photography teachers in the country—a true honor and another dream realized.
Since then, I’ve earned a master’s degree in STEM Education and developed an elementary photography curriculum called The STEAM of Photography. My future plans include publishing more books and curricula and pursuing a PhD to explore the intersection of photography and neurodivergence.
When I’m not immersed in photography or education, I enjoy spending time with my wonderful adult children and adventuring and modeling with my adorable husband as part of our creative project, Fools in Love.
As for my name, Rose Riot is a perfect description of me and my work. Rose: traditional and beautiful, Riot: let’s make some noise!
